Financial Studies Center

Image of students in Financial Studies Center at UTSA College of BusinessThe Financial Studies Center is a 1,800 square foot center that features a 26-seat trading lab and a separate classroom for financial literacy programming. It is staged to look and operate like a trading room commonly found on Wall Street. The center is equipped with Bloomberg terminals providing electronic sources of financial news and investment data.

The center provides UTSA students with a real-world, real-time environment for hands-on training in capital markets.

More than $246,000 was raised in support of the center. Jeanie Wyatt, MBA ’86, CEO and Chief Investment Officer, South Texas Money Management, LTD; and Frank Holmes, CEO and Chief Investment Officer, U.S. Global Investors Inc.; have each generously sponsored a Bloomberg terminal for the center. Additional funding came from the Volney E. Dibrell Trust.

Specialized courses such as Trading and Analysis of Financial Instruments and Financial Modeling are taught exclusively in the center. It is utilized as a resource for students taking classes in portfolio management and investment analysis and for the Investment Society and the Financial Management Association student organizations.

“The center allows students to acquire practical knowledge regarding the functioning of financial markets, data collection and data analysis,” said Lalatendu Misra, professor of finance. “The Financial Studies Center also is a valuable resource for the development of students’ technical expertise in trading, portfolio and financial management activities.”
